The essential qualification

She got the best marks in school, won various scholarships, was always at the top of her class, achieved a respected degree, worked for major companies, and has the best referrals.
That’s what a successful career woman usually works for all her life; but that’s all meaningless for those who want to do the Work of God. The fact that she graduated won’t change a thing about how useful she’ll be in the Work of God.
Although her CV is constantly being updated with new experience, there is one factor - the new birth - that is essential for her to do the Work of God. Without this she can forget about it all, she just won’t qualify. That is primarily the only quality she needs, to do the Work of God. It’s a referral from God Himself saying, ‘You are ready to work for Me now’.
Some pastors’ wives and assistants don’t have this quality and are doing the Work of God as though they have it. Some of them are completely busy with the day-to- day church activities and think that this will fill the gap. Others are busy keeping up with their daily tasks at home, trying to be the best mother, wife, housewife, and also think that is enough. While others are busy trying to hide this major flaw in their spiritual life - always pretending to be someone they’re not.

There are two common things about them all: they don’t know whom they serve and, God does not count on them in the long run. That’s right. They have an expiry date written on their forehead.

It’s sad though because the only ones to suffer for this is they themselves. The Work of God will always go on. Those who are born of God and are part of His Work will also go on, but those who are not born of God, won’t. Sooner or later they’ll disappoint their friends, their family, their husbands, themselves, God and the church. That’s how serious being a woman of God is.

When a ‘woman of God’ is not born of God, she doesn’t know what she’s capable of. There have been those who have stolen, lied, deceived, committed adultery, slept with strangers, abused children, and even killed. I’m sure they never thought that one day, they’d do such terrible things. But they did. It would have been better if they had never come to church!
The devil knows those who belong to God and those who don’t and once you start pretending to be of God, he’ll make sure you get double the suffering, shame, and disgrace that he usually places on those who belong to him. As if to say, ‘Let’s see how long she’ll hold on to that godly pretence.’

If you are a pastor’s wife or an assistant and recognise that you haven’t yet had a personal encounter with God, stop believing that with time this will happen, because it won’t. It will only happen when you stop pretending. When you humble yourself and recognize that you need to seek God for yourself.

Stop trying to help others because you can’t. Help yourself first, then when you’ve got this basic and essential requirement - the new birth - go ahead and help others because God will honour you. You will be able to trust in yourself because He’s with you.
